I’m Laurie Chua, SHRM-SCP—an HR educator, certification coach, and HR expert witness with more than 35 years of real-world HR leadership experience.
Throughout my career, I have helped HR professionals work through complex employee-relations issues, apply employment laws and professional standards, and make sound, defensible decisions. I created the HRPDG HR Certification Prep Learning System to bring that practical experience into certification preparation.
My approach goes beyond memorizing terminology. I help candidates understand HR concepts, recognize what exam questions are really asking, evaluate plausible answer choices, and select the best response with confidence.
I believe certification preparation should do more than help you pass an exam. It should strengthen the professional judgment you use throughout your HR career.

Which HR certification exams does the program support?
The program supports candidates preparing for the SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, SPHR, PHRi, and SPHRi exams. Because exam requirements and content frameworks may change, candidates should confirm their eligibility and current exam requirements directly with SHRM or HRCI.
How is this program different from other HR certification prep courses?
HRPDG goes beyond memorization and traditional question banks. Candidates learn how to recognize what an exam question is testing, work through situational judgment questions, eliminate plausible-but-weaker choices, and select the best response based on context, process, and sound HR judgment.
Is this a self-paced program?
The learning materials are completed at your own pace, giving you flexibility to study around your work and personal responsibilities. You are not studying alone, however. The program also includes weekly coaching, recorded coaching sessions, personalized study-plan guidance, and an individual exam-strategy session.
How long will I have access to the program?
Participants receive 18 months of access to the learning system. This allows candidates to prepare at a sustainable pace, revisit difficult topics, adjust their exam timeline when necessary, and continue developing their professional judgment.
Is the program appropriate if I have already taken the exam?
Yes. The program is especially valuable for candidates who have studied the material but struggle with situational questions, repeatedly narrow their choices to two plausible answers, or need a more effective strategy for analyzing and answering exam questions.
Does HRPDG guarantee that I will pass my certification exam?
No ethical certification-preparation program can guarantee a passing score. HRPDG provides structured instruction, resources, practice, coaching, and exam strategies, but individual results depend on factors such as preparation, participation, experience, study habits, and exam performance.
Are SHRM and HRCI affiliated with the HRPDG program?
HRPDG is an independent certification-preparation provider. References to SHRM, HRCI, and their certification credentials identify the exams candidates may be preparing to take and do not imply sponsorship or endorsement.
Does HRPDG provide other HR services?
Yes. In addition to HR certification preparation, Laurie Chua provides California HR compliance education and HR expert-witness and litigation-support services. These services are separate from the HR Certification Prep Learning System.
